Edward was in the Civil War and served in the 5th PA Cav with his brother Thomas. He enlisted on 9 Mar 1862 in the 65th Regiment Volunteers. He Enlisted in Company I, Pennsylvania 5th Cavalry Regiment on 03 Sep 1862. I have not found discharge info for him but I assume he was discharged 9 Aug 1865 when the unit was mustered out.

About 1868, He married Ellin and in 1869, Frederick Pickering was born.

He worked as a sailmaker most of his life.

On 11 Dec 1878, I found Edward on a ship manifest for the SS California from London to New York. His wife Ellen and son Frederick accompanied him. He berthed in steerage. This is the first indication I have found that He and his brother Thomas were possibly born in England and not Philadelphia since I have been unable to locate an 1850 census. I believe he went to England on notification of his fathers death in W Derby, Lancashire, England.

Edward died at a young age. His death certificate shows he was 38 years old.
