Rose Piccolo Girardi, of Williamsport, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at The Williamsport Home.
Rose was born on May 2, 1911, in Tiadaghton, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Crisho) Piccolo.
Rose resided with her daughter, Judy, and was a member of Mater Dolorosa Church.
Rose was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed being with her family. For over three decades, Rose could be found on Saturdays in the fall, cheering on the Lycoming College football team with her rosaries in her hand. On Sundays she would gather with the family for lunch and a discussion of the play calling. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on May 2.
Surviving are her children, Judy Girardi, Frank (Lynne) Girardi, Madelyn (Stephen V.) Brown, all of Williamsport; daughter-in-law, Crystal (Apkar) Girardi of Nisbet; brother, John Piccolo; and sister, Katherine Piccolo, both of Williamsport. Rose was also survived by nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly and will sadly miss her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; four brothers, Joe, Anthony, Jim and Frank; two sisters, Lena and Nettie; and her son, Jim Girardi.
The family will receive family and friends at Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Mater Dolorosa Church, 635 Hepburn St., Williamsport. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery with a committal service at Wildwood Chapel.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions in Rose's name be made to The Williamsport Home, 1900 Ravine Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ciccarelli for his years of care and the staff at the Williamsport Home who cared for Rose during her brief stay there.
