Joan Alexander, 57, 435 East South St., Winchester, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1995, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 19, 1935, in Winchester, the daughter of Oscar and Mabel Dietz Phillips. She was a 1953 graduate of Winchester High School, where she was the salutation and Girls State representative. She graduated in 1956 from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and for 25 years worked for Dr. C.R. Slick at his nurse. She was a former employee of Randolph County Hospital in Winchester, and a member of Winchester First United Methodist Church, where she was a Sumday School teacher for 20 years and served on the Pastor Parish committee. She was a member of Job's Daughters and a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, James Alexander; one son, Mike ( wife Laurie) Schopmeyer of Evansville; one daughter, Connie (Mrs. Doug) Dicken of Cleveland, Ohio; one step-son, James C. Alexander of Alexander of Anderson; five granchidren, Sarah and Jim Schopmeyer, Spencer and Alexander Dicken and James Adam Alwxander ; ome sister, Pauline Irish of Winchester.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Winchester with Rev. Harold Walker and thr Rev. Audrey Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
Friends may call today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester.
Memorials may be given to Winchester First United Methodist Church.
