Edwin Austin Phillips was born to Everett and Olga Phillips on May 11, 1919 in Brownwood, Texas and later moved to Atoka, Oklahoma with his family when he was a teenager. He was an avid motion picture fan while growing up and began working as a projectionist at a movie theater in his late teens. After his discharge from serving in the Army during World War II he became manager of several Theaters in Oklahoma. He married Vivian Rodgers on November 19, 1941 and they had their only child Ronald on July 17, 1944. In 1959 he moved his family to the San Francisco Bay Area and began employment at the Montgomery Ward's West Coast Service/Parts Distribution Center in San Leandro from which he retired in 1981. Edwin and his wife have lived in Hayward since 1960 and have been active members of the Neighborhood Church in Castro Valley for approximately 30 years. He is predeceased in death by his father, mother and brothers Earnest and Alton Phillips
