Eloise C. Clower (Pfeffer), longtime Fargo educator and homemaker, died December 19, 2002. An active supporter of the NDSU Alumni Association, Eloise served on the Board of Directors for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Born August 6, 1916, in Fargo, Eloise was the second child of John and Mary (Flynn) Pfeffer. After graduating from Sacred Heart Academy (now Shanley High School) in 1934, she attended North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) receiving a bachelor's degree in 1938, with majors in English and Social Sciences. Her beginning professional career included positions as a secondary school teacher and principal in Watertown, MN, Sykeston and Flasher, ND. For 37 years she taught in Fargo and Moorhead public and private schools. In 1972, she obtained a Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance at North Dakota State University where she was employed as a teacher and counselor of returning Vietnam war veterans.

In 1941, she worked for the war effort in Washington, D.C., where she was employed by the U.S. Department of Justice. Marrying William M. Clower in Alexandria, VA, they returned to Fargo where she became a life-long active member of the Democratic-NPL Party serving in various capacities as precinct captain, fundraiser, and local officer roles. She also held officer positions in the PTA, Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and St. Mary's Cathedral parish. Retiring in 1984, she and Bill (deceased) traveled and enjoyed winters in Florida and Arizona.

Surviving are seven children, 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two sisters.
