Juanita Ruth "Ruthie" Peyton Adkins, 79, of Albany, Ind., passed away at 2:39 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, while in the company of family members at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Ind.
Born November 25, 1933, in Chapmanville, she was a daughter of the late Calvary and Caroline "Carrie" Wheatley Peyton.
Ruthie was a member of First Freewill Baptist in Dunkirk, Ind. She was a homemaker, cook, and pie maker at St. Clair's restaurant in Albany. As the story is told, biscuits and gravy made correctly were introduced by Ruthie. She was the widow of Donald E. Adkins, with whom she played bluegrass Christian music throughout churches in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Kay Turner of Albany; two sons, Thomas R. (Shari) Hall of Yorktown, Ind., and Drury E."Dru" (Selena) Hall of Dunkirk; five grandchildren, Justin Peterson of Albany, Darik Hall of Yorktown, Don Hall of Portland, Ind., Kelsi Hall of Miami, Fla., and Audrey Hall of Dunkirk; a sister, Glenna Swimms of Chapmanville; brother, Charles E. Peyton of Chapmanville and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Louise P. Aliff and Marie Peyton; two brothers, Waldo Peyton and Drury E. Peyton, and a granddaughter, Alicia Dawn Hall.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at First Freewill Baptist, 12369 W. 600 S. Dunkirk, Ind., 47336, with Pastors Delmar McCowan and Marion Donathan officiating. Burial followed in Gardens of Memory at Muncie.
Visitation will Tuesday, March 12, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements were entrusted to MJS Mortuaries Dunkirk Chapel.
