CONRAD, Sue Peterson, 58, of 6317 Old Ferry Road, Hiwassee, died Sunday March 2, 2003, at her residence. Born on February 22, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Mabel Chumbley Peterson and Shirley Peterson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Draper and Donald "Tuck" Peterson. She is survived by her husband, Dale Wayne Conrad; two sisters, Jane Peterson Morris and Nancy Peterson Bond; and three brothers, Bob Peterson, Tom Peterson, and Gary Peterson, all of Snowville. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dr. Sue Conrad was a retired Professional Counselor and Adjunct Professor from Radford University. She was a Licensed Professional Counselor; a certified Marriage and Family Therapist and a certified Counselor Supervisor. She had also been an Adjunct Professor at Hollins University before becoming ill with cancer. She received both her Bachelor and Masters degrees from Radford University, and Doctorate of Education Degree in Counseling and Student Personnel from Virginia Tech. She taught at Central Elementary School from 1966-1974. She was an art teacher and guidance counselor at Pulaski Middle School from 1974-1985. The last thirteen years of her professional career were spent at Radford University Center for Counseling and Student Development. She was an active leader in the local, state, and national levels of the American Counseling Association and the American College Personnel Association. For her professional work, she was named Virginia Counselor of the Year for 1997. She was also selected to be a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a national educational honor society and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. But she will be remembered best for her quiet, soft spoken, incredibly insightful approach to helping students and clients move ahead with their lives. Dr. Sue Conrad touched many lives as a teacher, counselor, mentor and friend with her dedication and commitment to the well being of others and her profession. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Dublin United Methodist Church where she was a member. The Rev. Mike Travis will officiate. Visiting will be at the church from 6 p.m. until service time. Interment will be at Cecil's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Wednesday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, #9 East Church Avenue, Roanoke, Virginia 24011, or to the Dublin United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, c/o Dublin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 577 Dublin, Va. 24084. Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
