Marion Iona Peterson Alvey, 94, of Escalante, Utah passed away March 12, 2008 in Washington, Utah.
She was born April 10, 1913, in Boulder, Utah to Bertrand and Rosa Goulding Peterson. She married Edson B. Alvey August 2, 1935, in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death February 25, 1994.
Education was always a priority in Iona's family. She left home at a young age to attend high school in Escalante and went on to graduate from Snow College and B.Y.U. Iona loved teaching. She taught at Escalante Elementary for 41 years, where she was known for her ability to teach reading.
She was active in the LDS Church throughout her life. Iona had a calm personality and was a great listener. She loved to cook and was a good seamstress.
She and Edson enjoyed spending time outdoors, hiking with friends and family around the Escalante desert country.
Iona loved her family and was loved by them, and will be greatly missed.
Iona is survived by her children: Arvonne (H. Dee) Whittaker, Washington; Lana (Thomas) Jordan, Duchesne; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers: Joseph C. (Myrna) Peterson; Darwin (Flora) Peterson and Garth E. (Lois) Peterson, all of Salt Lake City.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters: Golda (Hans) Jackson, LaPreal (Dudley) Spencer, Lorna (Cliff) Shelby; brother: Marland
(Hope) Peterson and great-grandson: Justin Mac Brinkerhoff
Funeral services will be Monday, March 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Escalante LDS Chapel. Friends may call Monday morning at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Escalante City Cemetery. Funeral
