George V. Peterson, age 91, of Lakeside, Iowa died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 14th at 2:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with the Reverend Jamie Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends.

George V. Peterson, the youngest of nine children of Nels and Mary (Ort) Peterson, was born in Newell, Iowa on February 2, 1912. He lived with his family in Newell.

On September 18, 1935 George was united in marriage to Helen Toohey in Council Bluffs. To this union, three children were born.

George worked as a carpenter for all of his life, semi-retiring in 1979. Following his retirement, he continued to keep busy doing odd jobs. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, gardening and fishing. George was especially fond of raising roses, as well as being an avid hunter. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his son, Charles Petersen and wife Judy of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Shirley Herzog and husband Jack of Lakeside; grandchildren: Debra Williams, Barb Koehler and husband Jay, Bill Herzog, Sheryl Hunter and husband Mike, Mike Petersen, Wendy Groth and husband Gary, Melissa Newcomer and husband Mike, and Mark Petersen; great grandchildren: Aaron and Jim Koehler, Deana and Devin Williams, Whitney Hunter, Michael and Trevor Groth; sister-in-law Jane Toohey; nephews: Paul Toohey and wife Connie, Jim Petersen and wife Betty Jean, and Bill Petersen; nieces: Mary Jane Garrison and husband Lee, Phyllis Coddington, LaVone Kriskov and Margie Becraft; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

George is preceded in death by his parents, son Ronald Dean Petersen, three brothers and five sisters, and two great-granddaughters, Jennifer Jean Koehler and Mercedes Nicole Hunter.
