Mabel Cecilia Andreasen, daughter of Peter and Anna (Andersen) Petersen, was born May 4, 1906, on a farm near Ruskin, Nebraska. She passed away Thursday, November 14, 1996, at Jewell county Hospital Long Term Care in Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 10 days.
She was baptized on June 10, 1906, and confirmed on May 14, 1922, at Bethany Lutheran Church near Ruskin. Mabel attended rural school near Ruskin.
As she grew older she worked and did housework at various places until December 30, 1926, when she was united in marriage to Ernest Andreasen. This union was blessed with two sons, Don and Glenn. They lived and farmed in the Superior community until 1961 when they moved to a farm near Webber, Kansas. In 1966 they joined St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hardy, Nebraska. In December 1977 they retired and moved to their home in Webber. On December 30, 1986, Mabel and Ernest celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mabel was a loving mother and grandmother. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed crocheting and reading the Bible and Mabel always had words of encouragement for others.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ernest, on March 1, 1991; six brothers, Alvin, Soren, Theodor, Jens and infants Ezra and Walter; two sisters, Elsie Petersen and Mary Nelson; and one granddaughter, Flo Lani Andreasen.
Survivors include two sons, Don and his wife Bernice of Alma, Nebraska, and Glenn and his wife Betty of Mankato, Kansas; three grandsons, Rick Andreasen and his wife Carol of Superior, Nebraska, Jim Andreasen and his wife Deb of Webber, Kansas, and Bruce Carlson and his wife Jan of Grand Island, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Gayla Mackenzie and her husband Scott of North Platte, Nebraska; 10 great grandchildren, Rory, Sarah, Josh, Justine, Jenny, Cory, Lacy, Oliva, Chad and Sara; one great great grandson, Stetson; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 18, 1996, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska, with Pastor Howard Schroeder officiating. Music was "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" with Hartley Petersen as soloist and congregation singing of "How Great Thou Art" with Ernestine Hoyer as organist. Pallbearers were Kenneth Nelson, Berwyn Petersen, Gary Brineger, Rex Sykes, Rick Andreasen and Jim Andreasen. Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Grummert, Wylie Blair and Francis Anderson. Interment was in Spring Creek Cemetery, Ruskin, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
