Emma Peters was born July 16, 1853 in Strahlsund, Province of Sall, Pomerania (now, 1990, part of East Germany). She came to the United States with her parents and siblings when she was four years old in 1857. They settled in Wisconsin, later moving to Minnesota with her sister Mary and husband. Emma was a tall woman of erect carriage.
