Richard L. "Pete" Petersen, 81, of Flower Mound, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010, in Bonham. He was born January 2, 1929, in Delavan, Wisconsin to George Henry Petersen and Angie Owen Brown Petersen.Pete served proudly in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He married Jan Bauernfeind on June 19, 1976, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a member of Vista Ridge United Methodist Church in Lewisville and a member of the Summit Club in Flower Mound.
He was employed by the United States Postal Service and retired with more than 17 years of service. Pete served as a member on the Flower Mound Parks Board for 13 years from 1989-2002 and was chairman of the board from 1996-1998.
During his work at the post office and throughout his retirement, Pete was instrumental in the design and layout of the bike and jogging trails that currently encompass the Town of Flower Mound.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Jan; brother, David O. Petersen of Estero, Florida; three children, Dianne Filip of San Antonio, Kim Krasnan of Amarillo and John Krasnan of Lewisville; grandchildren, Thomas Filip of Waco, Johnna Sain of Amarillo, and Maddalyn and John Ryan Krasnan of Lewisville.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2010, at Vista Ridge United Methodist Church. Interment with military honors will be held at 1:45 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Summit Club of Flower Mound.
