ALLEN Ruth Elizabeth Persons Allen, born January 31, 1933, died on June 16, 2012. Originally from Scooba, Mississippi, she moved to Mobile with family in 1942. She graduated from Murphy High School and later met her husband, James Earl. She retired from Gayfers in 1994. Ruth, better known as "Nanny" to many was a wonderful mother, grand-mother, neighbor and friend. After her retirement she enjoyed watching her soap opera's or "stories" and trips to Biloxi to visit the "Sizzlin 7's", where she made monthly deposits and withdrawals. She was known as quite the character by all who had the pleasure to know her. Her wit, generosity, love of animals and warm heart will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Allen; parents, Robert C. and Esther Mary Persons; sister, Mabel Persons; brothers, Forest C., James Wesley and Robert Carl Persons.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Elizabeth Touart, Kay Allen Hart; son, Stephen Doyle Allen; grandson, Cameron Ryan Jones; granddaughter, Esther Lauren Hart; great grandson, Lane Jones; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, close family friend, Crystal Hillman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM from St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
