YATES CITY, IL - Betty Sue Maxwell, age 65, of Yates City died at 5:47 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
She was born July 15, 1943, in Branson, Mo., to Floyd and Eunice (Hawkins) Perryman. She married James D. Maxwell on April 18, 1964, in Yates City. He died July 18, 1998.
Surviving are one daughter, Robin Tompkins of Washington; son, David (Tina) Maxwell of Yates City; twin brother, Bob (Donna) Perryman of Elmwood; and sister, Paula Hochstatter of Sublette. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Evan, Kyle, Donavon and Sophia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Betty worked for the Hoffman Seed Co., Yates City Cafe and retired from L.R. Nelson Corporation.
She was a longtime member of the Elba-Salem Fire Department Women's Auxiliary.
She enjoyed gardening, riding motorcycles, dancing and playing the card game Spades, at which family considered her a master player.
Betty spent the last seven years coping with an often-unforgiving illness, but that never dampened her sense of humor or dimmed her smile.
She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to every waking moment.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, where visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials can be made to the Elba-Salem or the Washington fire departments.
