Carl Douglas Perryman
May 19, 1932 - July 13, 2013

Carl Douglas Perryman, lifelong resident of El Dorado County, passed away of natural causes at age 81. He was a descendant of the Jacquier family, which came to California and settled in Smith Flat. Carl's childhood was filled with outdoor activities that always included spending hours with his father as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He developed a love of horses that eventually led to his winning a saddle presented to him at the El Dorado County Fair.

After graduation from Eldorado High School in 1951, Carl worked for the Department of Fish and Game until being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War. After returning home, he met and married Sydney Nunez. They recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Carl worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a road maintenance supervisor until his retirement in 1985 after 26 years of service. His work ethic and reputation as a dedicated "get the job done" boss lead to the completion of many road projects that are still in use throughout the Eldorado National Forest.

His hobbies included cooking (great chili) and baking (the best pies) and hunting, a skill learned from his father. He later became interested in flying and golf. Both he and his wife became pilots, purchasing the "Perryman Airport" in 1974 and sharing their joy of flying in their classic Stinson aircrafts. During his retirement years, Carl's love of golf grew as he perfected his left-handed swing at the Sierra Golf Course. One of the highlights of his retirement was a trip to Scotland, where he played the famous old course at St. Andrews.

Carl is survived by his wife, Sydney; three children, Yvette Clerici (John), Kieran Carrero (Jose) and Douglas Perryman (Rim); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Forestlee Trujillo and Marita Riffey; and brother, Al Perryman.

No memorial service will be held per his request. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Fall. Remembrances may be made to Snowline Hospice.
