MRS. BALDRIDGE RITES ARE HELD

Mrs. Eleanor Ann Baldridge, 49, wife of Chariton Newspapers publisher, John D. Baldridge, died Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Methodist hospital.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul C. Ellis officiated. Interment was at the Chariton cemetery.

Mrs. Baldridge suffered an eye impairment early in January and underwent tests which led to surgery for a brain tumor Jan. 26. She seemingly had made an excellent recovery when she worsened and was re-admitted to the Iowa Methodist hospital March 21.

In addition to Mr. Baldridge, she is survived by a daughter, Nancy, who was attending Southern Methodist University until her mother's illness and is now enrolled at Drake University. Also surviving is her mother, Mrs. H. C. Perry, and a brother, Howard D. Perry, both of Dallas, Texas.

Mrs. Baldridge was prominent in women's activities in Chariton, having served in official offices of the Chariton Women's club, the P.E.O., the Choral Mother's club and the W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church. She was or had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In addition to having served as head of the Sunday school department of her church, as a member of the church board and choir, Mrs. Baldridge was chairman of the educational building committee, which directed planning for construction of the unit, opened for use April 7 of this year.

One of Mrs. Baldridge's principal interests was travel. Either before her marriage or along with her husband, she had visited Europe twice, had made several visits to Mexico and Canada and toured portions of the Orient in addition to all parts of the United States. She had planned to accompany Mr. Baldridge on another visit to the Orient this spring.

Born at Marion, Kansas, March 24, 1914, Mrs. Baldridge lived most of her early life at McAlister, Okla. and in Dallas, Tex. She attended Christian College at Columbia, Mo. and Southern Methodist University at Dallas, Tex. from which she was graduated in 1936. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.

She married John Baldridge Feb. 16, 1939, at Dallas. The couple lived in Chariton from that time except for the World War II period and 1 and a half years when the family was in Seoul, Korea, where Mr. Baldridge was on assignment with the U.S. Department of State.
