JAMES EDWARD PENNINGTON, 75, of Memphis, retired customer service employee of Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division, died of heart failure Sunday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Memphis for 45 years where he served as sound board operator, and he was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Pennington, the husband of Sarah Matthews Pennington for 53 years, also leaves two daughters, Pat Duncan and Judy Moore, both of Memphis; two sons, Jimmy Pennington of Jackson, Tenn., and Charles Pennington of Bowling Green, Ky.; two sisters, Ann Hessen of Memphis and Polly Frisby of Buxton, N.C.; a brother, Bill Pennington of Tupelo, Miss., 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church of Memphis. (Published in The Commercial Appeal 7/4/2000)
