John Pennington
AMORY - John Walton Pennington, 77, died Jan. 18, 2009, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory after an extended illness. Born Sept. 4, 1931, in Monroe County, he was the son of Chas and Eliza Ritter Pennington.
He lived most of his life in Monroe County and in 1959 he married Betty Benton, who died in 1990. A member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, he was a retired farmer, mechanic and truck driver. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and served in the Mississippi National Guard. He enjoyed working on cars.
Visitation will continue until services at 3:30 p.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Greg Chamblee officiating. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Park.
Survivors include sons, John Thomas Pennington (Patricia) of Amory and Bruce Allan Pennington (Jean) of Smithville; daughter, Lori Ann Pfaff (Wes) of Ness City, Kan.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Marshall W. Pennington, Jimmy Ritter, Jason Johns, Tim and Huey Little, and Harold Standifer. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Little and Allen Pfaff.
