James Albert Penland, 72, plasterer by trade for many years and for the last six years an employee of the Caswell-Runyan company, died at 1 a.m. Monday at the Huntington County Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday morning. He had been in failing health 12 days and was seriously ill two days.
Mr. Penland was born August 15, 1877, at Warren to Hiram and Margaret Garrison Penland. His first marriage was to Attie Calhoun who died September 22, 1947. The second marriage was to Mrs. Emma Davis, December 24, 1948.
Surviving are the widow, two daughters of the first marriage, Mrs. Walter Rinearson, Muncie, and Mrs. Joe Petrucelle, this city; five grandchildren, Mrs. George Shrieve, Rondal Rinearson and Walter Rinearson, Jr., all of Muncie and Carolyn and Donald Petrucelle, this city; two great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Robby Shrieve, Muncie; a step-daughter, Mrs. Howard Roebuck, Markle, four step-grandchildren, Mrs. Katherine Hinds, this city; William Roebuck, with the U.S. Navy in the Philippine Islands; Gene Roebuck and Herman Simon, Markle; six step-great-grandchildren, Gloria Jean Hinds, this city; Barbara Simon, Larry and Diane Simon, all of Markle; Jeanine and Richard Simon, this city; and five sisters, Mrs. Jode Shultz, Mrs. Joe Wolverton, Mrs. Will Ruble and Mrs. Arlo Mossburg, all of Warren; and Mrs. Raleigh Wolverton, Sturgis, Mich. The family residence is at 842 Etna Avenue.
The body was removed to the Bailey funeral home where friends may call.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. John A. Turner officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.
