A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired in 1991 after 50 years of public food service. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Christian Center.
Mrs. Baumgardner was the daughter of the late Charles and Mamie Turner Penland, and the widow of Thomas William Baumgardner, who passed away in 1964.
Surviving are her daughter, Karen Carter of Swannanoa; sons: Maurice Baumgardner and wife Karen of Weaverville and Charles Baumgardner of Asheville; sister, Mildred Norris and husband Rayford of Greenwood, SC; nephew, Allen Marshbanks of Mars Hill; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Burial will be held at Green Hills Cemetery.
