Lucille Pendleton Reilly, 83, of Lower Paxton Township, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Holy Spirit Hospital. She had been the loving wife of William F. Reilly, who passed away in December 1974, after 33 years of marriage.
She was born April 12, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late Ralph and Betty Harnden Pendleton and was also preceded in death by a brother, W. Newton Pendleton.
Lucille was raised in Darien, CT and graduated from Darien High School. She was also a graduate of Stoneleigh College in New Hampshire, and was an interior designer in New York City following her graduation.
She and her husband, William, owned Door Control Devices, Co. in Harrisburg, which she continued to operate following his death.
She was very active in the community, most notably within the Dauphin County Library System. She had been a trustee for the Dauphin County Library Board, was the first president of the Friends of the East Shore Library, and for over 30 years, organized the Friends Book Sale. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries (PCBL), who named her Library Citizen of the Year in 1989.
She was the Past President of the League of Women Voters, and until two years ago, had been the Judge of Elections in her Ward. In 1991 the Dauphin County Bar Association presented her with the Liberty Bell Award for outstanding community service.
Lucille had been a member of Colonial Park United Church of Christ, the Garden Club of Harrisburg, past president of the Newcomers Club, past president of the Colonial Crest Association, a PTA member, a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a member of the Colonial Country Club and tennis team, the Chit Chat Club, and helped organized the Devon Crest Swim Team.
A loving mother, and homemaker, she also enjoyed reading, gardening, boating, sewing, walking on the beach, appreciating nature and spending time with her dog, Gabby.
Surviving are her 3 sons, William F. Reilly, Jr. of Millville, NJ, Robert P. Reilly and Richard P. Reilly, both of Harrisburg; 2 grandchildren, Devin and Merritt and 4 great-grandchildren, Devin, Jr., Chase, Alec and Haley.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
