Maria Hermila Basaldua
(September 29, 1938 - January 25, 2010)
Maria Hermila Pena Basaldua was born to Julio M. and MaConcepcion G. Peña in Los Ramos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on September 29, 1938. The family moved to the Rio Grand Valley where they raised María and her siblings: Ovidio (Domingo) Peña, Guadalupe (María) Peña, Elida (Alberto) Davila, MaElena (Jose T.) Silva, Julio Peña, Herminia Peña, Jesus Peña, Connie Peña, Eloisa (Dionicio) Martinez. They traveled extensively following the crop migration as did the Basaldúa family. María and Ernesto met in 1955 in Arkansas and married on October 19, 1957 in Blackfoot, Idaho. From this union came five daughters, eighteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren with number six on the way; Deana Basaldúa and children Gabriel, Omar, Joey, Jasmin Viramontes and Nicole Salgado; Sulema Basaldúa and children Marco (Veronica) López and their sons RJ and Andre, Iris López and her daughters Amia and Nia, Carina López and her daughter Demi; Elia (Elias) Reyes and children Bri, Ramiro, A.J. and Gabi, Lisa (Jr.) Gracia and children Jonnie (Alyssa and great grandchild number six), Ariel, Mateo, and very special niece Lexi Lúcero; and Tina Basaldúa (Miguel) and children Ernie, Gavino and Beni García. María and Ernesto opted to stop migrating and raise their daughters around the Caldwell area in 1962. María held seasonal jobs with Sun Valley Farms, JC Watson Farms, and Huston Hop Farms until she obtained employment at JR Simplot Co. in Caldwell in 1977. She remained with the company until 1992. María was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She most enjoyed spending her time cooking and doing things for her grandchildren and daughters. She had a special way of bringing us through any hurt in our lives. We will forever miss her touch and words of comfort.
María was preceded in death by her father Julio Morin Peña, sisters Evangelina and MaElena, nephews Jose T. Silva Jr. and Felipe Peña.
