Alice Oliver Pegram, the daughter of Willie and Tempie Oliver, was born in Nottoway County, Virginia on January 23, 1894. At an early age, she joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Burkeville, Virginia and remained an active member until she passed. She was also active in the Dorcas Circle at the Shiloh Baptist Church at Blackstone, Virginia, where her husband was a member for many years.
She attended public school in Nottoway County. After graduating from Virginia State College in 1915, she began her teaching career. She taught in Nottoway Couty for forty-five years. After her retirement, she served as a substitute teacher for ten years.
She was married to the late John W. Pegram. To this union, one daughter, Thelma, was born.
The Virginia State Federation of Women Clubs,The National Retired Teachers' Association, The State Retired Teachers' Association, The Local Retired Teachers' Association, and The Americal Association of Retired Persons were organizaions wo which she belonged.
After the passing of her husband in 1971, she moved to Chicago, Illinois to live with her devoted daughter and son-in-law.
Alice O. Pegram departed this life on July 24, 1990 at the age of ninety-six.
She is surved by her loyal daughter, Thelma M. Adams and a devoted loyal son-in-law, Hubert Adams; granddaughter, Diane D. Beck (Douglas); grandson, Gregory D. Adams (Patricia); four great granddaughters, Gina D. Adams, Mia F. Adams, Erika N. Prince, and Monique A. Beck, all of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Geneva Burton of Baltimore, Maryland and Mrs. Maude Oliver of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
