In 1914, an 80 year-old widower living in fayette, WVA., he applied for admittance to the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldier's Home, due to "old age". He was admitted in 10/1914; died there.
The 8th Cavalry Regiment was organized early in 1862 with nine companies but increased its number to eleven to July. Many of the men were recruited in Smyth, Nelson, Kanawha, and Tazewell counties. (bio by: BigFrench)
