Emaline came from an abolitionist family. She was the daughter of Thomas Pearson Sr. and his second wife Rhoda Rogers. She married very young, she was only 13 years old! Her husband was 11 years her senior, 24 years old. She married Joseph Richardson Allen (who has a cyber grave here) on 22 May 1857 at Newton, Jasper Co, IA. They moved to Lawrence, Kansas in support of the anti-slave vote there and were living at Lawrence during the famous Quantrill raid on that city. They had 7 children: 1.) Sarah Jane who changed her name to Jennie S.,born 1858 and married James Abram Still had two children Mary and Virgil 2.)James T. born 1863 who married Eunice Outland and had Ethel 3.)Thomas born and died in 1865 4.) Elmer born 1866 married Mattie Varnum had Clifton and Joseph 5.) Edwin Charles born 1871 married Allie Scates had Jack, Flora, Florence,Mary, Edwin and Maude 6.) Bertha born 1874 married Addison Connor and had Donald, and Richard; also, raised her orphaned niece Ethel Allen and her orphaned 1st cousin's child Martha Ann Peer. Both babies lost their mothers at birth or in infancy. 7.) Mary born about 1874 and died an infant.
