OTTAWA -- Velma B. Griffin, 73, Ottawa, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at an Ottawa hospital.
Mrs. Griffin was an inspector for the H.D. Lee Co. for 10 years before she retired in 1979. She earlier had worked for Warner Manufacturing and Willis Nursery.
She was born April 8, 1926, on a farm east of Ottawa, the daughter of Lloyd Jesse and Flora Nancy Sink Pearson.
She was reared on the farm and later in Princeton, where she attended school. She had lived in Ottawa the past 55 years. Mrs. Griffin was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa and a former member of the Garment Workers Union. She also was a former Brownie Troop volunteer.
She married Glenn William Griffin on April 5, 1944, in Ottawa. He died Dec. 3, 1984.
Mrs. Griffin also was preceded in death by a daughter, Beatrice Mae Griffin, and a grandson, Jeffery Alan Ebeck.
Survivors include three daughters, Janie Ebeck, Wellsville, Beth Griffin, Ottawa, and Tammy Gorton, Pomona; a son, Buddy Griffin, Ottawa; a sister, Janice Smith, Stillwell; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
Mrs. Griffin will lie in state after 9 a.m. Thursday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa where relatives and friends will meet from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
