Leland Thomas Pearce aka "Tom"

Tom passed away peacefully at Life Care Center of Reno on August 7,2012. Tom was born in St. Helen's Oregon on June 22, 1926, second son to Lot and Louise Pearce. His early years were spent as a child of the Great Depression, following his parents across Northern California and Oregon in search of steady work. His fathers untimely death in 1935 forced his young Mother to raise Tom and his older brother Chuck as a struggling single parent, working long hours as a Registered Nurse in Portland, teaching her sons the value of hard work and sacrifice. Following his graduation from Benson Tech High School in Portland in 1944, Tom immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in World War II. After the war, Tom enrolled at Oregon State University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. In December of 1950, he married his longtime sweetheart, Isabelle Jones, together they settled in Portland and started their lives together. While in Portland, they welcomed the addition of their 4 children, Jone, Bill, David and Luann. In 1961, Tom accepted a transfer and promtion to Southern California. For the next 31 years, Tom and Izzy raised their children in Downey, Ca. In 1985, after 35 years of employment, Tom retired as an Accountant with Mobil Oil Corporation. In 1992, Tom and Izzy moved to Reno and spent 20 happy years shuttling between Reno and wintering in Yuma, AZ. Tom had many passions in his long life, most important was his family. Tom was a longtime active member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, he loved golf and never missed an opportunity to watch or attend any sporting event. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Chuck. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Isabelle, daughters Jone Pearce (Harry) of Irvine, Ca, Son Bill (Susie) of Truckee, Ca, son David of Reno and daughter Luann Basque (Dana) of Oakland, Or. Grandchildren; David Lara, Jennifer Dutil, Christina Pearce, Maggie Lara, Ricky Pearce, Darcy Basque, James Pearce, Julie Basque and Ryan Pearce. Great-Grandchildren; Ryder, Rhodes, Olivia and Hadleigh. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 1:00pm Friday August 17th at St. Lukes Lutheran Church.
