Funeral services for Susie Mariam Peak Forsee, 85, of Ashland will be at Robinson Funeral Home on Sat., July 23 at 11 a.m. with burial at Liberty Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mrs. Forsee was born in Ashland on Feb. 15, 1920, the ninth child of Annie Lee Chapel White Peak and Denigal Amon Peak. She married Raymond Forsee on Feb. 14, 1940, in Columbia, Mo. A member of Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Ashland, Mrs. Forsee lived her entire life on the farm south of Ashland with the exception of working in Columbia out of high school at Christian College. Mrs. Forsee was known as the "best cook in Boone County," according to her husband, a statement that can be testified by many hay crew members, visitors and family who sat at her kitchen table. She never wanted anybody leaving her kitchen hungry. She harvested the bounties of her garden by canning, pickling and preserving fruits and vegetables for future meals. She liked to read a good book and loved to dance. She taught her daughters and granddaughters how to do the Charleston, a popular dance of the 1940s. She died at her home on July 21, 2005. She is survived by her husband of 65 years; a son, John Lester Forsee, and wife, Marilyn; and two daughters, Janet Glascock and husband, Jerome, and Rosemary Wyatt and husband, Tommy, all of Ashland. She has 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clinton and Jesse; and five sisters, Grace Peak, Mary Jane Peak, Ruah Peak, Clara Brinkmeier and Mildred Phillips. Surviving sisters are Lillian Nichols of Ashland and Joanna Monda of Jefferson City. A daughter, Betty Lou, died at birth. Memorial contributions may be sent to Community Hospices of America, 1005 Northeast Drive, Jefferson City, Mo. 65109.
