HEADLEY, Viola May Vondale Peacock age 101, of Kettering, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. She was born on September 3, 1909, in Marion, Ohio, graduating from Marion Harding High School. Viola attended Miami University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and was named the most beautiful woman on campus by Florenz Ziegfield. She graduated from Bowling Green University in 1953 where she received her degree in Education. Viola taught many years in the Marion City Schools and at Centerville's John Hole Elementary (first grade). She was an avid golfer and won the Marion County Amateur Golf Tournament twice. Viola was a member of the Burroughs Club, Dayton's Woman's Club, Chapter CI of PEO, Delta Delta Delta, and Oakwood United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for over 50 years. She was a beautiful and vibrant mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who has been an inspiration to many family members, friends, and former students. Viola was much loved and will be greatly missed. Her passions were music, travel, bridge, golf, angels, and most importantly, her faith and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Jennie Fay Peacock, and by her loving husband of 52 years, Herschel Kelley Headley, who passed away in 2007. Viola is survived by daughters Suzie (Frank) Holloway and Diana (Karl) Stein; grandchildren Chip (Leeann) Holloway, Chris (Urmila) Holloway, Skip (Jill) Stein, Jennifer Stein, Kim Holloway, and Kirk Stein; and great-grandchildren Lily, Keller, Molly, Jack, Jenna Lee, and James Holloway and Kody, McKenzie, Karson, and Olivia Stein. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Oakwood United Methodist Church, 206 E. Hadley Ave., Oakwood with Rev. Brian Thie officiating. A committal service will take place in Marion Cemetery in Marion, OH at 2:30 pm, with burial following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oakwood United Methodist Church, 206 E. Hadley Ave., Dayton, OH 45419, Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420, or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.
