Bessie Peach Jones

Bessie Peach Jones, 94, passed away March 3, 2012, at home. Roselawn Funeral Home will announce arrangements. She was born in Sheffield, Alabama, graduated from Sydney Lanier High School in Montgomery, and graduated from Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, VA.

While in college at Randolph Macon, she was the editor of the yearbook and a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. Many of her classmates from Randolph Macon became lifelong friends and she enjoyed many reunions with these classmates.

In her adult life, Bessie was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry, the Women of the Church, and Daily Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Decatur Junior League, and for over fifty years a member of the Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club. She was a great supporter of her children's school and athletic events. Bessie was an avid golfer throughout her adult life, enjoying it both as a participant and a spectator. She was active in many golf events at Decatur Country Club, including chairing the junior girls' golf programs.

She was predeceased by her parents, John Hill and Bessie Peach and by one son, John Hill Jones.

She is survived by her husband of over 63 years, George Herbert Jones Jr. and three children, Lucia Alston Logan (Ben), Martha Jones Lang (Ken), and George Herbert Jones, III (Ruth). She is also survived by five grandchildren, George Herbert Jones, IV, Ruth McFaden Jones, Ben Harrison Logan, IV, Deidra Alston Logan and David Alan Lang (Margaret), a brother-in-law, Wolsey Jones (Barbara), and numerous nephews and nieces. The family sincerely thanks her caregivers Marian Solorzano, Deborah Dye, Amie Buford, Minnette Jenkins and JoAnne Brumfield for their love and devotion during the last eighteen months of her life.

The family requests that memorials be given to St. John's Episcopal Church, 202 Gordon Drive, Decatur, Alabama 35601.
