Mrs. Malinda A. Dawes nee Peach, a long-time resident of O'Fallon, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Bowen, in the northern part of city on Saturday evening at 9 o'clock, after a brief illness, aged 73 years, 4 months and 23 days. Her death was caused by the infirmities of old age. Two weeks before her demise she became bedfast and life began to ebb away rapidly.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the Bowen residence to the Baptist church, where services were conducted at 1:30 o'clock by Rev. O. Myerscough. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.
The deceased was born in Waterloo, Ill., January 8, 1851, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Peach. Sixty years ago the family moved to this city, where the deceased resided since. She was united in marriage to James D. Dawes, January 14, 1868, at Kaskaskia, Ill. Three children were born to the union, one of whom preceded her in death and the following remain: William J. Dawes and Nellie, wife of E. C. Bowen, of this city. Her husband died nine years ago. She also leaves one half-brother, James Peach, of Belleville, and three half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Williams and Mrs. Joseph Blum, of St. Louis and Mrs. Maggie Evans, of East St. Louis; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Dawes united with the Oak Hill Baptist church in the year 1872. She was also a member of the Ladies' Aid of the Baptist church of this city.
