She was born March 30, 1924 in Redding, CA to William and ruth Payton. She married James Altenburg in 1944 and he passed away in 1980. She then married Joseph Patten in 1987 and he resides in Redding, CA.
Kay was a secretary for Chico Unified Schools, She was a great mom, sister, grandmother, and aunt. She was known for special cakes baked each month for the birthdays for the month.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Don Payton. She is survived by son, Patrick James Altenburg (Kathleen) and sons, Matthew and Nicholas of Cohasset; daughter, Toni D'Amato (William) and son, Christopher of Chico; step-children, Dan Patten (Anna), Marty Patten (Colleen), Nancy (Doug) Craig, Patti Macias (Logan) all of Redding, CA; Peggy (Rich) Mattson of Alaska, and Mary (Mike) Shoenberger of Rocklin, CA; sister, Helen (Tug) Kroskob of Colorado.
