Mr. Ken Payne, age 82 of Crockett, formerly of Austin, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mr. Payne was born March 20, 1926 in Beaumont, Texas and had lived in Crockett since 1992, previously living in Austin. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Payne was a member of the Lothrop Masonic Lodge #21 A. F. & A.M. He was self employed having worked in the sheet metal and air conditioning business. Mr. Payne was a member of the Baptist Church in Austin.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie Payne, of Crockett; daughters Kathy Gehm and husband John, of Dallas, Vicki Sweet, of Bastrop, Dena Vallas and husband Wayne, of Irving; step-children Regina Lowe and Tim Boyd, of Centerville and Tony Green and wife Kim, of Whitehouse; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother Andy Payne and wife Dorothy, of Pinehurst; sister-in-law Evelyn Payne, of Trinity; brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Ferrell Minter and wife Ann, of Crockett and Essie Ray, of Deer Park; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by his parents Euell and Lottie Payne; grandson Rion Monk in 2005; four brothers; one step-brother; one sister; and one step-sister
Funeral Services for Mr. Ken Payne were held Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Hutto officiating.
Military Graveside Services followed in the New Energy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 15186, Austin, Texas 78761.
