Birth: Jun. 27, 1855
Death: May 23, 1929

MRS. SOPHIA PAULSEN, widow of the late Herman Paulsen, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Bonk, Thursday evening of last week, following a long illness. Mrs. Paulsen had been an invalid for the past year and a half but until last March was able to be up and around with the aid of a wheel chair. Her condition took a change for the worst during March and gradually she grew weaker until claimed by death Thursday evening.

Sophia Paulsen, nee Bork, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bork, was born in Brookfield, Waukesha county, June 27, 1855. She came to this county with her parents while still a young girl, settling on a farm in the town of Charlestown, now owned by Frank Woelfel. On August 2, 1876 she was united in marriage to Herman Paulsen, taking up residence immediately after marriage on the Paulsen homestead in Charlestown, where she spent her entire married life. Mr. Paulsen died on June 26, 1916 and for several years following his death, she lived with her son, William on the homestead. During that last few years she has been making her home with her children, dividing her time among them. Last fall she came here to live with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bonk and was with them until her death.

She was the mother of eight children, five of whom survived her namely; Mrs. Louis DeKarske of Charlestown, Mrs. Leo Bruckner of Milwaukee, Mrs. Ed. Bonk of this city, William of Charlestown and August of San Francisco. She also leaves six grandchildren.

Living in this community for so many years, Mrs. Paulsen enjoyed the friendship and respect of every one and though death was a released from her suffering it is a source of sadness to all.
Funeral services were held on Sunday from the bonk home, Rev. W. A. Arpke officiating with interment in the family lot in the Charlestown cemetery adjoining her old homestead.
