Davenport - Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine R. "Gerre" Cerretti, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where a prayer service will be offered at 4 p.m. There will be additional visitation at the church on Monday from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Gerre passed away suddenly Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center- East Campus, Davenport.
Geraldine Ruth Paulos was born September 30, 1921, the daughter of George and Irene (Olsen) Paulos in Davenport. She was united in marriage to Peter Cerretti on November 2, 1946, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport.
Gerre worked for the Rock Island Arsenal during the war and in later years she worked at Younkers, retiring after several years. She was a member of St. Paul's Church and had volunteered as a poll worker for many years. She was especially dedicated to her husband of almost 60 years. A wonderful mother, Gerre always encouraged her children in their careers and for an appreciation of art. She loved having the sound of young children around her. A lifelong card player, she was always ready to play for nickels and dimes at a moment's notice. She enjoyed her backyard birds, squirrels and wooded view of Duck Creek Park. Gerre was an expert crossword and cryptogram solver, and also collected dolls. She loved bingo and enjoyed her Pilot Club "lunch bunch" get-togethers.
Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years, Peter, and their children, Janis and Alex Gonzalez, West Frankfort, Ill., Douglas and Diane Cerretti, Seattle, Wash., Joan and Bill Randolph, Maitland, Fla., Jean Maruri, Bayonne, N.J., and Joyce Cerretti and Brian Hutchinson, Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Patrick Geramanis, Carbondale, Ill., Andrew and Michelle Geramanis, Mesa, Ariz., Alistair, Nicholas, Lauren, and Kyle Cerretti, Seattle, and Peter Maruri, Bayonne; three great- grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole, and Jordyn Geramanis, Mesa.
Gerre was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dolly Miller, and two brothers, Eugene and Richard Paulos.
