Georgia Chocas 1918 ~ 2006

Georgia Chocas, 88, died November 28, 2006 from complications from a stroke. Georgia was born on March 9, 1918 to Theros and Vasiliki Paulos in Midvale, Utah. In 1947, she married Nick Chocas and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where she was actively involved in Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Her lively 31 years in Cheyenne involved working for the Laramie County Health Unit and participating in the Masonic orders of Daughters of the Nile and Eastern Star. Her expertise in Greek and her love of children made her a natural as the Greek School teacher. Georgia returned to Midvale, Utah in 1978 because of a promise kept by her husband to return her home upon his retirement. Georgia was active in Holy Trinity and Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox churches where she was a member of the Philoptochos and Daughters of Penelope. She looked forward to the Greek Festival every year and loved the participation and the camaraderie of this event. Georgia was a gifted story-teller and kept her legacies, and all those involved in her life, alive through her remarkable memory for dates and details. She loved people and was a favorite among many. Georgia always looked forward to her shifts at the Midvale Historical Museum and in doing ceramics at the Midvale Senior Citizens. Georgia had a sympathetic heart and was a generous philanthropist, especially to children and the disenfranchised. Georgia was a superb mother and grandmother. Her spirit for life and her unwavering devotion, her wit and sense of humor, her kindness and her being, made an indelible imprint on her entire family. She will be loved forever.
