Dale Paulk Couey, 65, of, Willacoochee, Georgia died Monday, August 8, 2011, in Irwin County.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 11, at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Lax with the Rev. Henry Tyson and the Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. Visitation will be held from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Couey was born February 18, 1946 in Ocilla, Georgia to the late Woodrow Wilson and Nellie Kate Davis Paulk. She was a 1964 graduate of Coffee County High School, attended South Georgia College, was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College and received her Education Specialist Degree from Valdosta State University. Mrs. Couey was a retired educator, having taught in Chatham and Irwin Counties and was a Language Arts Consultant for the Coastal Plains Regional Education Service Agency. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the U.D.C., past president of the Ben Hill-Irwin Retired Educators and a Regent for the D.A.R., Nathaniel Abney Chapter. Mrs. Couey was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. She bred golden cocker spaniels and enjoyed working in her yard.
She is survived by her husband: Rev. Robert T. Couey of Willacoochee; children: Douglas M. (Alice) Maitland, Charleston, SC, Amy (Casey) Williamson, Rebecca, Casey Couey and Nikki Couey both of Shelby County, KY; grandchildren: Haley Maitland, Charleston, SC, Alyssa Maitland and Dustin Williamson, Rebecca; sister: Gail (Ned) Day, Fitzgerald; sister-in-law: Annabelle Paulk, Orange City, FL, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Davis Paulk.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, PO Box 777, Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
