Doy Patrick obituary: Sailor, superintendent, cowboy, railroad man – and more
Doy Elmer Patrick of Pawhuska, Oklahoma passed away on May 24, 2012 at the age of 82.
He was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on December 15, 1929 to Elsa Lee (Forbes) and Omer Morgan Patrick. After graduating from Nelagony High School, Doy proudly served in the U.S Navy during the Korean War. Over his life, Doy was a farmer, cowboy, railroad man, draftsman, superintendent of Osage Hills State Park, custodian at Pawhuska High School and an employee at the Osage County Historical Museum. Doy's love for the outdoors was easy to see – he could always be found weeding in his garden. He loved to play sports in his youth and passed the spirit of competition to his children. A Western novel never went unread by Doy even when his eyesight became poor. Music was ever present in Doy's life. He enjoyed singing and making up songs and poems on the spot.
Doy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Patrick, his sister Lola Farmer, and two grandsons Reese and Jackson. *
There will be a memorial service on June 23, 2012 at McCartney-Johnson Funeral Home at 10:00 am followed by a graveside ceremony. A celebration of Doy's life will be held immediately after the graveside ceremony at the Osage Cultural Center at 1449 W. Main.
