WEST HARTFORD — Harriet "Pastor" Del Donno, 92, formerly of 137 Grandview Ave., Waterbury, passed away peacefully under the loving care of her family on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Hartford Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late John T. Del Donno.
Mrs. Del Donno was born on Sept. 21, 1918, a daughter of the late Thomas and Fannie (Russo) Pastor. Harriet was a graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1936, where she was a member of the Italian Club, Debating Club and the Rifle Club. In 1936, she became president of the Rifle Club and qualified as marksman, first class. In her early years, she worked at her father's office, Pastor Stop Watch Co., assisting her father by assembling stop watches.
She was a member of the Yolanda Social Club and volunteered as a nurse's aide at Waterbury Hospital during World War II. After the war, she was a receptionist, accountant and financial adviser at her husband's business, John's Stylist Beauty Salon in downtown Waterbury. While raising children, Harriet created a loving home characterized by her unwavering belief in family and Christian values. She was also the source of magical holiday traditions. After raising her children, Harriet started a new career as a bookkeeper at Engineered Sinterings and Plastics Inc. in Watertown, where she worked for over 20 years until her retirement in 1983.
Harriet collected stamps, was an avid reader, loved to swim and play golf. She was a soft-spoken woman who placed her family before all others, was thoughtful and appreciated each person she met.
Harriet is survived by her daughters, Pamela Del Donno of West Hartford, with whom she made her home, and Harriet Jassil and her husband, Joseph, of Crystal River, Fla.; her sons, John Del Donno and his wife, Gail, of Wolcott, and Dennis Del Donno and his wife, Alice, of Lexington, Mass.; her four grandchildren, Lindsay, Lesley, Sophie and Carlo; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, John, of 64 years, Harriet was predeceased by her sisters, Evelyn Yourk and Lucille Pastor.
The funeral will be held 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011, from the Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to Blessed Sacrament Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Calvary Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
