Alma Daphine May was the seventh of nine children born to William Logan May and Minnie Agnes Muskat.
Small in stature, she was called "Short" most of her life. She married Owen Clarence Scott on April 7, 1934 in Newton, Kansas. They had two daughters before the marriage ended in divorce. One of those daughters, Shirley Ann, preceded Short in death while the second daughter, Marilyn Kay, followed her mother to the angels soon after.
Alma's second marriage was to Jack Lee Partridge. They married in Newton, Kansas on July 28, 1938 and had two sons and three daughters. One son, Norman Wayne, was a helicopter pilot who was killed in Vietnam.
Aunt Short was a very religious woman who loved music and loved to sing. She opened her home to friends and relatives no matter the time of day or night. She was in her element when surrounded by her extended family at reunions and gatherings. At the time of her death, she had 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Alma spent her last years in a nursing home after suffering strokes. While her body was incapacitated, her mind was always very sharp and her family learned to communicate with her. One daughter took time every day to check on her and feed her and make sure she was well cared for in the nursing home.
Alma's final night on earth was spent listening to her daughters sing hymns to her. After so many years of silence, her voice is now raised in the angel's choir.
