Vada P. Anderson, 81, born November 5, 1931 in Valdosta, Ga., died on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at her home in Athens, Pa. She was the daughter of Aubrey and Ruth Parrish. She grew up and lived in Valdosta, Ga., until meeting her husband, Harold (Andy) Anderson, who was stationed at Moody Air Force Base. The two married on July 25, 1954, and moved to Sayre where they soon started a family. Vada enjoyed being a member and the cook at the Sayre Sportmen’s Club for many years. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and bowling, but she especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Andy; her daughters Vicki (Louis) Judson and Lisa (Rock) Shadduck, all of Athens; her grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Davidson, Andrew and Christopher Carl, Tyler and Cassidy Shadduck; and step-grandchildren Dee Murray and Louis Judson III. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth (Talmadge) Moore; a brother Bill (Delores) Parrish; sisters-inlaw Marion Parrish of Georgia, and LaQuita Parrish of Florida; brothers/sisters-in-law Robert and Judy Anderson of East Smithfield, John and Joyce Anderson of Sayre, Chuck and Barb Anderson of Athens, along with many nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend Donna Sassman Robinson. She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter Kathy; son Harold David; brothers Aubrey and Raymond Parrish; nephew Donald Parrish; and niece Nancy McDaniel. A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York. The celebration of Vada’s life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013 with the Rev. Benjamin Lee Lentz officiating. A special tribute to Vada’s life will be presented on DVD during the funeral service. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one’s favorite charity.
