Laura Ellen (Parmelee) Butler, 51, Kalamazoo, Mich., died of brain cancer on Nov. 26, 2008 at Kairos Hospice.

Laura was born Nov. 25, 1957, in Kalamazoo. She was a daughter of Lois Ellen (Johnston) Marks, formerly, Westernport, and Orrin Parmelee, Kalamazoo. She was the granddaughter of the late Albert and Hazel Johnston, formerly of Westernport, MD.

She graduated from Vicksburg High School and then Michigan State University in 1999. She was an investigator for USIS.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Linda Parmelee; one stepsister, Linda Marks; two sons, Jeremy and Donnie Butler, Kalamazoo; one granddaughter, Abigail Butler, Kalamazoo; one brother, Douglas Parmelee, Phoenix, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews; three uncles, John Johnston, Westernport, Paul Johnston, Keyser, W.Va., and Kenny Johnston, Mt. Airy; one aunt, Mary Foley, McHenry; and a special friend, Joh Brown, Kalamazoo.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Laura will always be remembered for her giggle and her love of life.
