Irene Clemons, 94, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, April 18, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late Joe and Sarah Ann Walsh Parlier. She was born in Avery County, N.C., although she lived most of her life in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Haskel "Bo" Clemons; four brothers, Spurgeon, Chester, San and Elliott Parlier; two grandsons, Randy Hendricks and Jeff Moffitt; and an infant granddaughter, Melissa Moffitt.
Mrs. Clemons was a homemaker who loved to make quilts, crochet, cook, garden and can her garden produce. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Mrs. Clemons is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Willis and Luther Guess, Phyllis and Dennis Hart, Shirley and Robert Holdren, all of Elizabethton, and Beverly and Sid Hendricks, Fletcher, N.C.; two sons, Elmer Clemons and Steve Clemons, both of Elizabethton; three sisters, Cosy Hyder, Elizabethton, Lue Martinelli, Elizabethton, and Florence Cook and her husband, Bill, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, Lawrence Parlier of New York; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Joan Parlier of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Clemons will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, and at her home and at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Holdren, at other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, in the Crow Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tim Rasnick, Doug Rasnick, Jim Caldwell, Mike Burnett, Marvin Dial, Tom Howell, Bob Livingston, Jarrod Ellis and Matt VanGerden. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Bobby Stout, Rev. Charlie Biggs and all the men of Fairview Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special thank you to Johnson City Hospice and the fifth and sixth floor doctors and nurses at Johnson City Medical Center for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Clemons.
