Susie Victoria Brumley was born May 17, 1925, to Ethel Ellen & Robert Parker in Steprock, Arkansas. She went to be with the Lord peacefully on February 19, 2011, with her family at her side. She was raised in a farming community in rural White County, Arkansas, until she was married to her husband, Cecil "Jack" Brumley, on June 25, 1943.
She and her husband moved to California in 1945. They moved to the Tulare/Pixley area in 1953. They settled in Terra Bella in 1962; working in the fruit harvest as well as selling their own strawberries locally and commercially.
Together, they raised eight children; five boys and three girls. Along with raising her own children, she helped raise neighbor children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her such joy and she adored them.
She was a member of the Terra Bella Church of the Nazarene and faithfully attended from 1962 to 2008 until her health would not allow. She was the full-time nursery coordinator at the church from 1979 to 1990. She was a much loved volunteer at the church, helping with Vacation Bible School, teaching preschool classes and helping to plant flowers around the church. She received The Distinguished Service award in 1990, and in 2008, she received the Centennial Heritage Award from the Terra Bella Church of the Nazarene.
She also volunteered her time at the Gleaners and at Terra Bella Elementary School. She enjoyed reading the Bible everyday and singing church hymns. She wrote several poems and faithfully wrote letters to family out of town. She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil "Jack" Brumley, of 33 years in 1976. She was also preceded in death by son, Robert Gus Brumley; and daughter, Fern Brumley; brothers, Henry Alexander Parker, Robert Parker and Max Parker; and her sister, Lucile Grimes.
She is survived by her sisters, Ethel Mae Driskill and Sybil Warren; and brother, Benny Parker; son, James Brumley and his wife, Jean, William Brumley and wife, Linda, John Brumley and wife, Ethel, Dale Brumley and wife, Patricia, and Benny Brumley; daughter, Bonnie Gibson and husband, Marvin, Ann Nelms and husband, Arnie; Linda Christensen and husband, Steve; grandson, Brian Brumley and wife, Gretchen; granddaughter, Jackie Everett & husband, Roger; grandson, Craig Brumley and wife, Melissa; granddaughters, Debbie True and husband, Quentin, Heather Stroud, Cathy Christensen and Kaitlyn Nelms; grandsons, Randy Brumley and wife, Bernadette, Nathan Nelms and wife, Jessica, Daniel Nelms and Joshua Christensen; great grandchildren, Hannah, Aiden and Mason Brumley, Quaid Everett, Caleb and Cody Brumley, Autumn, Makalah and Peytanne True, and Gavin Nelms.
Visitation will be held at Myers Chapel on Thursday, February 24, 2011, from 3:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A service will be held at Terra Bella Church of the Nazarene on Friday, February 25, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held at Vandalia Cemetery.
