HAMPTON - Virginia Ida "Ginny" Fleming passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 , at home surrounded by family after a short illness. She was 84.
Born June 7, 1925 in Palisades Park, she was a daughter of Robert and Lucy Parker and raised by her grandparents, George and Ida Parker of Pittstown.
She attended Flemington High School and then worked at Frenchtown Porcelain Co., where she met the man who would become her husband, Romulus Fleming Jr.
They were married by Rev. Samuel Willis on April 15, 1944 at the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church of Mount Pleasant. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
After their marriage, she was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a special place in all our hearts. Her favorite activities were taking long walks on the Cape May shores collecting shells, spending time with her poodle Gidget, raising flowers and following NASCAR racing. She was an active member of the Stanton Grange and Hampton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary until her illness. For many years, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing with their friends with the Danny Tebo Square Dancing club.
She was an assistant custodian/cafeteria aide at the Hampton Public School where the children enjoyed her special hellos and smiles. She was a member of the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church of Mount Pleasant.
She was predeceased by a sister, Millie Kursa and brothers, Bobby and Dale Parker; grandson, Daniel Franks; and daughter-in-law, Sandra LePoidevin.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Romulus Fleming Jr.; children, Flora I. Christensen and her husband Jon of Hardy, Va., Sandra L. Gelegonya and her husband Ernest Sr. of Wilmington, N.C., Floyd A. Fleming Sr. and his wife Marian of Holland Township, Christine H. Wenzel of Hampton, Joseph LePoidevin of Nazareth, Pa. and Alfred Franks and his wife Margie of Frenchtown; grandchildren, Anthony Buck Jr. of Milford, Theresa Harris of Camp LeJeune, N.C., Ernest Gelegonya Jr. of Southport, N.C., Amy Fleming of Pennsylvania, Floyd Fleming Jr. of Pennsylvania, Emily Fleming of Holland Township, April Abelman of Milford, Jeffrey Wenzel of Hampton, Linda Rosenblatt, Susan Tesigni, Joseph LePoidevin and Tina Andresen, all of Pennsylvania, Jamie Dayton of Ohio and John Franks of New Jersey; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services: Funeral services Monday, Jan. 11, 11 a.m. at the Alexandria First Presbyterian Church, 141 Little York-Mount Pleasant Road. Interment following at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation Sunday, Jan. 10, 6-8 p.m. at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township.
