Learn about upgrading this memorial...
Birth: unknown
Death: Dec. 19, 1863

Inscription:

Murdered in North Andover, Mass.
Aged 42 yrs.
Erected by his daughter Lucy.

John was the husband of Elizabeth Parker and they were the parents of Lucy E. Parker Holt, George A. Parker, Lottie Parker Marshall, Louisa J. Parker, Charles F. Parker and Corp John Parker who was killed in Cold Harbor, Virginia in the Civil War just six months after his father was murdered.

He was a resident of Derry and by occupation a farmer and a dealer in horses. He was also an agent for the town during the Civil War in which he procured substitutes to serve the Union. It was in that capacity that he was murdered in North Andover, Massachusetts for the monies he was carrying to pay said substitutes.

Note: John's daughter, Lucy, erected a stone for her father which states "Murdered in North Andover, Mass.". If she had not done this, then the tragic story of this family would have been lost forever. Thank you, Lucy, for keeping your family story alive.

Note: Stone cleaned by this biographer.
