Mildred was born on August 21, 1920 to Alfred and Felice Parent. She was the youngest of 11 children. She had 2 sisters and 10 brothers. She married John Collins and was married to him for about 13 years. They traveled with the Army as he was a member of the Army Band.A few years after their divorce, Mildred met and married Gilbert Leroy Ross. They were married just 2 days shy of 35 years when he passed away from a short bout of Pancreatic Cancer. They had 3 children together, 2 girls and a boy. After losing her husband of nearly 35 years, Mildred eventually began attending a club for widows and widowers. There she met Herbert Bourgeois, who she had known as a teenager in Gonzales, LA, where they were both born. It had been about 6 decades since they had seen each other. Herbert recalled being an Altar Boy at the church they had both attended. He told me that he would gaze at her and think she was the most beautiful woman in the world and said to himself that he was going to marry her someday. They began dating and her third marriage followed. She remained very happily married to Mr. Bourgeois until her death on October 14, 2008. She suffered from dementia for about the last 3 years of her life. Her ultimate cause of death was colon cancer.
