ATHOL -- A funeral service for Helen M. (Pappas) Alexakis, 93, was held Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. Harry Providakes, pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fitchburg, officiating.

Burial followed at Silver Lake Cemetery and the bearers were Gene Lyesiuk, Andrew Graphos, Davin King and Paul Morizzo.

Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, directed arrangements.

ATHOL -- Helen M. (Pappas) Alexakis, 93, of 126 Maple St., died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.

Helen was born in Lawrence, July 19, 1918, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Stathakes) Pappas.

She grew up in Lawrence, attending Lawrence High School and since 1938 has resided in Athol.

She had worked at the former Olympia Restaurant in Athol for several years and was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fitchburg.

Her husband of over 40 years James Alexakis died in 1987.

She leaves two nephews; John Alexakis of Athol and Samuel Alexakis of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; two nieces, Connie Ciregna of East Chester, N.Y., and Mary Stutzman of Deerfield Beach and several grand nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Pauline Alexakis, Charlie Pappas, Theodore, Harry and Rose Perdikis and Julia Baublis.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011 at 11 a.m., at Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol with the Rev. Fr. Harry Providakes, pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery.
