Joan M. Gennusa, 71, of Pen Argyl, passed away, Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle against lung cancer.
Born: in Pen Argyl, July 22, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Davis Paolini.
Personal: She and her husband Robert J. celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary, December 15th.
She was a 1959 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and a 1994 graduate of Northampton Community College, where she earned an Associates Degree in Nursing.
Before retiring in 2003, she was employed by Gracedale, Northampton County Home, prior to that she was employed by Doctors Sheila Borick and Mark Powell.
After retiring she worked as a part time school nurse in the Bangor Area School District. Memberships: Joan was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Pen Argyl, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, and was also a member of the former St. Roch's Church, West Bangor. She was the Republican Committee Woman, Delabole District Northampton County.
Survivors: In addition to her husband, Robert J., she is survived by a son, Joseph A. Gennusa and his wife Danielle of Wind Gap; a daughter, Lisa M. Wood and her husband Mark of Pen Argyl; four grand children, Carly Wood, and Nina, Amy and Nick Gennusa. A brother Richard B. Paolini preceded her in death.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 300 W. Babbitt Ave., Pen Argyl. There will be calling hours, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, http://www.ruggierofuneralhome.com www.ruggierofuneralhome.com , 126 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Pen Argyl, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
Interment will be in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be offered to either, The American Cancer Society , Lehigh Valley Unit, 3893 Adler Place, Bethlehem, PA 18017 or St. Luke's Hospice, 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
