Mrs. Wilhelmina Helwig died Thursday, August 3, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Genke, in Wells. She was 92 years of age and suffered from diabetes for the past two years.
Deceased was born in Germany and came to this county when she was sixteen years old. She resided for a number of years at Milwaukee and was married at that place to John Grundeman. Three children were born to them, Charles Grundeman of Perry, Oklahoma, Mrs. Martha Genke of Wells and Mrs. John Doss of Alma City. A step-daughter, Mrs. William Boettcher, of Lahoma, Oklahoma, also survives her.
Her husband died in the sixties and she was married later to Martin Helwig. They came to this county in 1869 and settled on a farm in Freedom Township.
In 1890 they moved to Janesville where her husband died in the spring of 1910. Mrs. Helwig went to Wells last fall to reside with her daughter.
She is an aunt to H. A. Panzram and when the latter became an orphan at the age of three months, Mrs. Helwig became his foster mother. Mr. Panzram made his home with her until he came to this city when he was first elected county superintendent of schools.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Janesville and interment was made in the Janesville cemetery.
